Sonata for Trumpet and Piano (2000)
I. Parade
II. Elegy
III. The Syncopated Juggler
Sonata for Trumpet and Piano is composed and dedicated to my friend, Rex Richardson. The work, in three movement, provides a straight forward but emotionally unsettling journey for the listener. The journey begins in the first movement’s “Parade” in sonata allegro form, through a melancholic “Elegy” in the second movement, to finally, a clumsy-like portrayal of a circus performer in the last movement titled “The Syncopated Juggler.”
