Biblos Genesis (2002)

for tape and recorded narrator

Biblos Genesis is an electronic composition inspired by the Bible’s story of Creation in the book of Genesis (Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 through 2-4). Besides the recorded narrator, all of the sounds heard in this piece were created entirely by using the software program C Sound. To create a very strong and viable connection to the biblical and religious references, I limited all my code programming in C Sound to the number 3, and multiples of that number – as the number 3 is a well-known religious number reference (in Catholicism) related to the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirt).

The sounds created were intended to portray the biblical story of Creation through sound gestures and occasional familiar sounds that listeners would be able to recognize as they listened to the text. The narrator, Kenneth Grayson, a friend of the mine, was recorded specifically for this piece because of his voice resemblance to actor Morgan Freeman. His deep, profound, and powerful timbre added the perfect text and narration to this experimental piece.

Recorded narration by Kenneth Grayson.
