Pie Jesu (1997)

for string orchestra, soprano, and piano (with optional solo violin).

Pie Jesu (pronounced “pee-ay yay-zu” which means “merciful Lord Jesus”) is the fourth movement taken from the composer’s Requiem (2020) for orchestra, SATB, soloists, and organ. This piece was the first Requiem movement composed before the full version in 2020. It was composed originally in 1997, with additional arrangements added in 2003, including versions for soprano and piano (seen above), string orchestra, soprano and piano (heard here below), and children’s choir (SS) and piano (with optional violin solo).
