The digitally manipulated sounds and timbres heard in Prism were entirely created using an electric guitar. Extended performance techniques were incorporated into the piece to obtain sounds that are not often associated with that instrument (plucking behind the nut, muted strings, pick scrapes, etc.) and to provide a mysterious and ominous character to the digital landscape. The piece was named “Prism” because it reminded the composer of how many brilliant colors (of sound) exist within, and result, from a single primary source, and how they are greatly manipulated by small variations of change.
